Not trying to sound pessimistic and would be most glad to be proved wrong, I think the Iraqi Left, or at least a major section of it, is in a state of impasse. The reactionary and feudal forces have managed very well to make their patriarchally oppressive, anti-democratic discourse the prevalent one in the current political arena of Iraq.
The Left has no effective program or plans to rescue Iraq from its social, political, moral, and economic crises. Often, the Left uses word acrobatics to replace a sober assessment of reality, and wishful thinking is a common substitute for evidence on the ground.
Some sections of the Left are just (mentally and physically) paralyzed in a state of eternal wait for things to change by themselves, and if challenged, their ready-made justification ‘our society is not ready for change now’ is another evidence of their reactionism. Those work on such justification cannot even claim to be Marxists, despite calling themselves Communists, since Marx, as we all know, has indicated that Marxism is about change, not about interpretations.
