This is a very tragic political drama and it is very difficult to keep a detached, non-emotional stance on these crimes. Nevertheless, not certainly willing to patronize anyone, I think that the victims’ families might wish to consider bringing lawsuits against the perpetrators as Samira,commentator 3, rightly indicates. The issue is not about settling scores or revenge. It is about justice and clarifying historical matters. Also, I agree with the comment that the victims should be rehabilitated and their families be compensated (I am using this word for a want of a better one).
Probably the Iraqi Communist Party is right if it is reluctant now to press for bringing lawsuits against the perpetrators, but it at least should try its utmost to make it clear to the victims’ families the reasons behind this possible reluctance and what steps it is taking to make sure that the blood split was not in vain. The least the party could do is to provide the logistic and legal support (lawyers, evidential documents, etc) for the families if they choose to take legal actions, and to initiate a
