You article is extremely interesting as it cast sthe light on one of the most important anti-colonial theorists. As a psychiatrist, as you indicate, he managed the individual needs of his patients within their social context and much appreciated their needs to be treated equally, and with dignity and respect. Unfortunately, the vast majority of psychiatrists worldwide know nothing or very little about Fanon. This is a shame, since the psychiatric curricula, or more specifically, the psychiatric trans-cultural curricula, even in Europe or US, teaches nothing about him and his views. I am not sure this is intentional or not. However, Fanon should be taught in the psychiatric curriculum of all so-called developing countries, including the Arabic ones.
As a psychiatrist myself, I believe psychiatry is not just about prescribing medications and sending the patient back to the same milieu that has caused the problem in the first place. We, psychiatrists, need to learn Fanon’s theories in depth, because the current psychiatry, with its reductionistic, biological focus, is totally bankru
