ONE DAY WE WILL MEET
Poem by Mahmoud Said Kawash
Despite the dark night
Despite the blowing winds that did not realize mercy
I extended my gaze to the spaces of stillness
With eyes believing in your existence
I scattered silence throughout the orbits of range
Then listened to the melodies playing on your breath
They would guide me to you
For your sake
The wind fought and blew the calm of the depths
The strands of the sun were scattered and lost throughout space
It illuminated the darkness and brightened the setting horizons
I could see you from afar
At which ports were you waiting
For your sake
I came from deep within myself to whisper
How much I missed you
How much death killed me
While you were away from me
You might extend your hands to me
So that I might be stronger again
I shouted loudly: “one day we will meet”
Your voice whispered to me: “Surely, we will do”.
