The Iraqi Communist Party has strongly condemned the cowardly murder of comrade Muthanna Mohammed Latif (Abu Thabit), the Secretary of the party provincial committee in Nineveh province on 1 May 2007.
A statement issued by the Politburo of the party s CC on 3 May 2007 said that the murderers carried out their vile act amid the celebrations of May Day by the Iraqi working class.
It said that the martyred Abu Thabit was "one of our prominent comrades who exerted relentless efforts to rebuild and consolidate the party organisation in Nineveh province... In appreciation of his efforts and contribution, he was elected as a delegate to the forthcoming 8th National Congress and had been looking forward to participate actively in its deliberations and sessions."
The party statement expressed strongest condemnation of "this heinous crime that was carried out by the terrorists; the enemies of life, peace, and democracy,“ and called upon the relevant authorities “to pursue the cowardly murderers and ensure that they receive just punishment."
The Politburo extended "deepest sympathy and condolences to the family of the martyr, and his comrades and friends, on this grievous event and big loss."
