Hassan Ajami is a Lebanese-American philosopher who published twenty books in Arabic and four books in English, covering different topics, such as philosophy, literature, communication and culture. In his book “Philosophical and Mathematical Theories of Language, Culture and Meaning”, published by Inkwell Books in the U.S.A., the author Hassan Ajami presents mathematical and philosophical analyses of essential concepts, such as language and meaning. Ajami attempts to reconcile between different and conflicting philosophical theories through articulating unique mathematical equations. His book covers diverse topics, such as truth, causation, knowledge, freedom, rationality, and morality in addition to analyzing democracy and tyranny.
The mathematical method of philosophically analyzing concepts and phenomena connects the chapters of this book through emphasizing the idea that any phenomenon could be philosophically analyzed as being a mathematical equation. Ajami’s book aims to solve some basic philosophical problems through relying on possible mathematical relationships between different phenomena. In his book, the author Hassan Ajami provides philosophical theories possessing explanatory powers. For example, Ajami defines democracy and tyranny as mathematical equations, such that democracy = production of information x maximum transmission of true information x equal distribution of true information, while tyranny = destruction of information x hiding true information. This explains why democracies are successful in producing information, while tyrannies fail in developing information.
