ISIS Razes The City Of Nimrod

ISIS militants have bulldozed the ancient Nimrud archaeological site near the city of Mosul, the Iraqi government said Thursday… Nimrod, one of the important Assyrian capitals is threatened by ISIS ,The ministry said the extremist organization has today, “assaulted the city of Nimrud archaeological site and razed by heavy military vehicles,” in a statement posted on the official page of the Department of Media Relations….Iraq’sf Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities said in a Facebook post that the militants used military equipment to damage the ancient city, according to the Associated Press..The ancient Assyrian city is one of the nation’s most treasured historical sites and is home to many priceless artifacts from the 13th century and beyond…The government did not say exactly how much of the site was damaged, but said the group is continuing to “defy the will of the world and the feelings of humanity.”..A government official told AFP that the militants might have used trucks to remove some of the artifacts from the site…The news comes after a video was released showing ISIS militants destroying ancient artifacts with sledgehammers…The group claims that such items must be destroyed because people begin to worship them instead of Allah….“Our prophet ordered us to remove all these statues as his followers did when they conquered nations,” a man said in the video.
Therefore we find that Nimrod was a very significant man in ancient times, the grandson of Ham and great-grandson of Noah. Nimrod started his kingdom at Babylon (Gen. 10:10). Babylon later reached its zenith under Nebuchadnezzar (sixth century BC). Pictured above are mudbrick ruins of Nebuchadnezzar’s city along with ancient wall lines and canals in modern day Iraq. This was also part of Nimrod’s kingdom (Gen. 10:11). Nineveh along the Tigris River continued to be a major city in ancient Assyria. Today adjacent to modern Mosul, Iraq, the ruins of ancient Nineveh are centered on two mounds, the acropolis at Kuyunjik and Nebi Yunis (Arabic for “Prophet Jonah”). On a prophetic note, Micah 5 in the Bible has mention of Nimrod in a prophetic setting:
When the Assyrian comes into our land, and when he treads in our palaces, then we will raise against him seven shepherds and eight princely men. They shall waste with the sword the land of Assyria, and the land of Nimrod at its entrances-;- thus he shall deliver us from the Assyrian, when he comes into our land and when he treads within our borders. Then the remnant of Jacob shall be in the midst of many peoples, like dew from the LORD, like showers on the grass that tarry for no man nor wait for the sons of men.

In Micah 5 we are told that this Messiah would deliver Israel from the invading Antichrist, whom the passage links to “Nimrod” the founder of Babel, and refers to him as, “the Assyrian.” “And this man [the Messiah] shall be the peace, when the Assyrian shall come into our land: and when he shall tread in our palaces, we will raise against him seven shepherds, even eight principled men. They will rule the land of Assyria with the sword, the land of Nimrod with drawn sword. He [Messiah] will deliver us from the Assyrian when he invades our land and marches into our borders” (Micah 5:2-6).
