In the Bosom of a Beauty
Poem : Islam Shams-ul-Deen

**********
Let me be for you..
Let me tonight to be for you
I’ll take off my being upon your threshold
And I untie the nails of my thoughts
and unbutton the buttons of my languages
I’ll remove veils which hide me
capture me
separates me from the closest needs to me
I’ll break off a fetter that fatigued me
crushed me
blooded me and burdened my steps
Tonight I’d enter your altar
Foot by foot
Regret after regret
I’ll shed in your lap my sobs
I’ll lay down burdens that cripple me
and a pain that abuses my mortal remains
I dismount a horse
exhausted by long journeys
Then I perform the ritual wash..
and say my prayer..
Don’t wonder..
Don’t be surprised by my return
For the child sneaking past the backs of the village- men into the depths of the mountain
would be brought back soon by the longing to a piece of sweets.
And the youngster who travels past the butterflies to the dream pastures
would soon be brought back by the taste of the first kiss
And the passionate lover whose wings are broken
amid the oceans of chastity
would soon cast his anchor at the nearest port where no customs exist
And the defeated knight on the fields of nobility
would spin from the colorful beds banners for victory
••
Don’t be surprised…
if you ever discovered that I proficiently hang about over the damped sidewalks
at the Christmas night.
And that I am skilled in dancing with whores in cheap pubs
Don’t be stunned…
if you would ever discover that I am highly skilled
in flirting the women
and in playing with strings of desire
until the first hours of the morn.
Be not astonished
For I---;--- my darling---;--- am exhausted
Due to soaring round the moon
on the two wings of an angel
And I have decided tonight to descend
into the land of the humans
••
Tonight we are going to make the body the dialogue-language.
For I have spent my lifetime studying the language of the soul.
And sanctify the language of the soul.
And I announced it a law that would unify the religions
And I founded it a homeland that plants the sweet basil.
And I granted it indulgences.
And I sowed it in every moonlit land
And I housed it inside lips, hearts and eyelids
And I have found out too late…
that it won’t give warmth to the worn out hearts!
••
Don’t whisper…don’t whisper
For in the West my dear
they make a day for stripping the bodies
And in the East they violate publicly
the sacredness of holydays
While I myself…
have decided to try to strip off the thoughts tonight!
••
A bit of perfume suffices
and your transparent shirt too
Since I dislike ornamentation
and I hate beatification,
falsification and theatrical motivation
I dislike also the women who change like the seasons do.
••
Don’t be afraid…don’t be terrified
Don’t be deceived by the furrows engraved in the walls of the heart.
Or the grayness scattered within the hallways of the soul
For the old age in the thirties-my little girl-
may kill the childhood inside us
Maybe it would kill the innocence of the puberty
and the haughtiness of youth,
and a little bit of
the ambitions of the manhood
But it would never harm the masculineness
••
Be kind and nice…
Be merciful with the tired head
as you let it rest on the cushions of your breast
For the limpid thoughts..
are fragile and easily breakable!
••
Be not shy…don’t be ashamed
For we are, my cherished---;--- two matches
We, my precious girl---;--- are two close mates
You have pushed the body willingly
and the Self voluntarily
into the way of sin
You have lost everything
And on the pathway of chastity
I am losing everything
As we are both---;--- my darling---;---
have practiced the sinful deed without return!
••
The night, its hours pass by quickly
But the morn comes not!
