Use Compassion In Your Daily Doings

"This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness." ~ The Dalai Lama

Every single one of us is looking for ultimate happiness. We search for it behind successful careers, racy cars, clothing with specific labels, being in a relationship with someone viewed as successful, or in a fast-lane life. And after we do this search, we discover that none of those things brings lasting happiness.

You may still be in the middle of your search, and you may not trust me when I say that none of those things brings lasting happiness. Have you proven yet if any one of them has given you lasting happiness? I urge you to consider another alternative.

When you use compassion in your daily doings, you are exercising both empathy and love for another human being. And the biggest payoff is for YOU, not for them. It s been shown in scientific studies that generating compassion develops more DHEA in your own system, and the DHEA reduces your sense of stress! How cool is that?

Showing compassion definitely makes you more happy and it makes the fellow you are showing the compassion to happy as well. You may never have considered that this spiritual attitude of compassion can be a benefit to you and here are some practical ways to generate more compassion and thus, more happiness.

• When you wake up, stay in bed and set your intention for the day. Decide to be kinder, more empathetic, more loving - and thus, more compassionate - for all you encounter today.
• Learn what empathy means so that you can cultivate more of it. Look up the word in a dictionary. OneLook.com is a great online source. Try to weave empathy into all your interactions with others. Ask yourself often: "What is his / her good idea for acting that way?" and then try to provide a good reason so you can empathize.
• When people appear different from you, do you automatically judge them as wrong or weird? I wonder what might happen if you tried to see all the things you DO have in common. They re trying to be successful, just like you. Like you, they want to be loved. Like you, they enjoy friendship. You ll be better served to look for things in common vs. differences and it will allow you to have more compassion.
• Do you want good for everyone around you? Are you happy for them when they find it, even if it s an area where you are lacking? If you want good for them, you ll be able to be compassionate for their suffering and help them remove it.
• This one really requires maturity, and I m sure you can do it. Extend compassion to those who don t like you or whom you don t like. Imagine if you can (this is part of compassion) what has happened to them in their life that has made them unappealing to you. The more you can understand where they are coming from and the whys of it, the more compassion you ll generate.....and the more happiness for both of you.

Won t you consider trying this out for just a few days to see if you can recognize greater happiness in your life? I think you re worth it!
